Achieving the Dream Initiative


William E. Trueheart, Ed.D., is the first president of Achieving the Dream, Inc.—the nation's most comprehensive reform movement for student success in higher education. Dr. Trueheart also serves as a member of the 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Statistics Pathways Steering Committee, the Gulf Coast Partners Achieving Student Success' National Advisory Board, and as co-chair of the Data/Metrics Advisory Panel for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

He serves on the board of Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, as Vice Chair of the Board of the Commonfund, Inc., and as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee of Johnson and Wales University.

He was formerly President of The Pittsburgh Foundation, President of Reading Is Fundamental, Executive Vice President and President of Bryant University, Associate Secretary of Harvard University's Office of Governing Boards, Director of the Master in Public Administration Program at Harvard's School of Government, Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut (UConn), Assistant to the President of UConn, and American Council on Education Fellow. He earned a B.A. at UConn and his M.P.A. and Ed.D. at Harvard.
